Francis Parker School, also known simply as ''Parker'', is an elite college preparatory independent day school in San Diego, California, serving students from junior kindergarten through twelfth grade. Parker was founded in 1912 by Clara Sturges Johnson and William Templeton Johnson, themselves recent arrivals to the West Coast. The Johnsons' nieces had attended the original Francis W. The upper and middle school campuses underwent a complete $45 million renovation, which was completed in 2010. Francis Parker is a highly selective school, with admission rates for the Upper School under 25% for matriculation into the 2013-2014 school year. Parker's main academic rivals are The Bishop's School as well as La Jolla Country Day School both located in La Jolla. Francis Parker student Snigdha Nandipati won the 2012 Scripps National Spelling Bee title with the French word ''guetapens''. ==Student Life== There are over 75 clubs at Parker. Many of them, such as Robotics(), Academic League, Science Olympiad, History Day, Improv, and Math Team, compete against other school across San Diego County. Both Parker's Academic League and robotics teams went to national championships in 2013, with the robotics team attending the FIRST Championship in St. Louis and the Academic League team attending the Quizbowl National Championships. Parker also boasts over 10 clubs dedicated to community service, such as the Francis Parker Interact, a division of Rotary International. The scope of clubs also extends into casual hobbies and pursuits.
